Hay River’s La Dee Dah to open Yellowknife location

“Dreams do come true!” wrote one user on La Dee Dah Boutique’s Facebook page when the Hay River store announced a second, Yellowknife location.

The boutique, owned and operated by sisters Nikki Ashton and Dayna King, will sell mid-priced youth and women’s clothing, including plus sizes, from a Centre Ice Plaza store across from Luluz Market.

A soft launch for the new store will take place on the weekend of November 24.

“We’re excited to be there and we’re excited to meet different members of the community and get involved in the city,” said Ashton.

The sisters plan to carry on traditions started in Hay River such as their store’s annual “12 Days of Christmas” promotion, featuring a different deal each day.

Ashton and King will run the business from Hay River, while a store manager will handle day-to-day operations in Yellowknife.

“We’re excited and a little nervous but decided to just go for it,” said Ashton, explaining they had been thinking about expanding for a while.

The original store opened 12 years ago when the pair returned from university and realized they wanted a place to shop for clothing in town – and to work for themselves.

“We started off as a ladies’ boutique and then slowly, as our lives changed, we were needing kids’ stuff so we added kids’ stuff,” said Ashton. “Then we realized there was a need for men’s stuff so we expanded there.”

La Dee Dah will also offer embroidery and promotional materials.
