Yellowknife’s City Cab drivers will stage a procession along Franklin Avenue in memory of their colleague Ahmed Mahamud Ali.

Ali, known as “Uncle Ahmed” to fellow drivers, was killed last month. A father and son face murder charges over his death.

Aurora Taxi drivers are expected to join City Cab’s staff in Monday’s procession, which will begin at noon.

City Cab said residents should expect delays between the Community Arena and School Draw Avenue.

“The loss of Uncle Ahmed is felt throughout the ranks of the city’s taxi drivers,” City Cab said in a statement on Friday.

“For the most part, residents have been very, very supportive,” City Cab’s Shirley McGrath told Cabin Radio.

“People have been expressing concerns and sympathy – a few have even made donations.”

City Cab expects as many as 80 taxi cabs to take part in the procession.
