A Town of Fort Smith employee has passed away following a car accident in Northern Alberta.
Anand Soochit, who was the Town’s corporate services officer, was killed in the accident on December 22 according to Mayor Lynn Napier-Buckley in a post to Facebook on Monday afternoon.
“Our thoughts are with Anand’s wife, Marie – who remains in critical condition – and their children during this difficult time,” her post read.
“It is a hard loss for families to face such a tragedy over the holidays and it is a reminder of the importance of taking this time to spend with our loved ones.”
Soochit had worked for the Town since September 2017, having previously been employed by Smith’s Landing First Nation and the Inuvik Housing Authority.
He was also a chartered accountant who operated his own business, Anand B Soochit Professional Accounting Corporation, in Fort Smith.
Napier-Buckley hopes to provide an update when memorial service details are available.
