Pine Point Bridge traffic is now being diverted over the old CN rail bridge as construction begins on the bridge on Highway 5 near the turnoff to Kátł’odeeche First Nation.

A stoplight – which has already surprised a few people – is controlling traffic over the single-lane rail bridge.

The rail bridge is just 4.5 metres wide.

The Pine Point Bridge is set to be demolished and rebuilt this year, with a scheduled completion date of November 15, 2019.

The new bridge will be 10 metres wide and will have an open deck, similar to the Hay River West Channel Bridge.
