Police say a man has died following a collision between two vehicles on Highway 3 south of Behchokǫ̀.

The man has not yet been named. Police said “numerous other persons” were taken to hospital, though the severity of their injuries was not specified.

The incident took place approximately 40 km south of Edzo, RCMP said, at about 9:45pm on Friday.

“An investigation is ongoing as to the contributing factors,” said police in a statement released on Saturday.

“An adult male from Behchokǫ̀ was pronounced deceased and numerous other persons were transported to hospital for treatment.”

An RCMP collision reconstructionist, whose job involves investigating and analyzing the collision site to draw conclusions about what happened, has visited the scene.

The highway was restricted to one lane for a period of time following the collision but has since fully reopened.
