A Fort Providence man who went missing earlier this week has been confirmed dead by RCMP.
In a statement issued on Thursday, police said the man had been reported missing on Wednesday evening. His body was located at 11:20am on Thursday.
Though Fort Providence residents have shared the name of a missing man online as people joined the search, police did not immediately confirm the man’s identity.
“At approximately 9:45pm, Wednesday February 27, Fort Providence RCMP received a report of a missing person,” read the RCMP statement. “RCMP were directed to a vehicle believed to belong to the missing person and a search commenced from the location. Due to failing light conditions, the search was ended until morning.
“NT RCMP Police Dog Services joined the search the morning of February 28. At approximately 11:20am, the missing male was located, deceased.
“RCMP and NWT Coroner Service are investigating this death.”
