Police in Fort Simpson have arrested an Edmonton man and seized crack cocaine that RCMP claim is worth almost $20,000.
Police said the arrest took place on Saturday evening following “a complaint of suspicious activity.”
Machot Magok, of Edmonton, is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of property obtained by crime, and being unlawfully in a dwelling.
“During the course of the investigation, RCMP seized 60 grams of suspected crack cocaine, packaged in three 20-gram bags, along with $805 of Canadian currency,” said RCMP in a news release.
“The total street value of this seizure is approximately $18,000.”
Two Fort Simpson residents told Cabin Radio a number of community residents known for their involvement in the drug trade had been “laying low” since police made their initial raid on Saturday.
Police activity is said to have increased significantly in recent days.
