Yellowknife 19-year-old charged over mystery assault
A Yellowknife 19-year-old has been arrested and charged with assault, three days after police issued an enigmatic call for help.
On Tuesday, RCMP asked for witnesses who may have seen an attack on a man in the area of 50 Street early on Friday, March 22.
At the time, police said they needed help working out how the man had come to be so badly injured that he required a medevac to Edmonton. The nature of the unidentified man’s injury was not specified and few other details were given.
In response to that appeal, police now say they gathered enough information to charge 19-year-old Jordan Charlie with aggravated assault, robbery, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
“As a result of the call for witnesses, GIS [RCMP’s general investigative section] was able to identify a suspect. Charges have now been laid in relation to this incident,” read a police statement on Friday evening.
“A publication ban request prevents any further details to the incident at this time,” RCMP added.
