Northwest Territories RCMP say they are reviewing an incident in which a man who was arrested may have been injured while in custody.
According to a police news release on Wednesday, a man was arrested on February 19, 2019 in Yellowknife and placed in a cell.
“During the court proceedings, comments from the defence counsel inferred the man was injured while in custody,” the release stated.
The news release said RCMP take allegations of possible injuries people receive while in custody “very seriously.”
RCMP said the review will be conducted by an inspector who had no involvement in the incident.
No more information about the incident in question, those involved, or the nature of the alleged injuries was made available.
