Editor’s note: May 6, 2019 – 9:30 MT. Based on information provided by the funeral home, this article initially stated Cassidy Giroux’s service was to be held in Fort Smith. That information has since been updated by the funeral home and this article has been updated accordingly.
Cassidy Giroux, the 15-year-old who passed away in Yellowknife late last month, will be remembered at a service in Fort Resolution this week.
Cassidy’s body was found near the Frame Lake trail between Albatross St and Matonabee St on April 30.
Police said no criminality was suspected in her death.
Students and staff members at her former schools in both Yellowknife and Fort Smith were devastated by her passing, remembering Cassidy as a great friend.
Initially, the NWT’s McKenna Funeral Home had stated a wake and funeral service for Cassidy would be held in Fort Smith on Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
However, on Monday morning, the funeral home provided an update, stating the funeral mass and burial are now to be held in Fort Resolution.
A wake will take place on Tuesday afternoon at the community hall, followed by a funeral mass at St Joseph’s Parish Church on Wednesday from 2pm.
