RCMP have confirmed they are investigating the sudden death of a man near the community earlier this week.
The man has been identified locally as Floyd Diamond-C.
Police said officers at the Fort Liard detachment had been alerted to the discovery of a body on Wednesday afternoon.
“Police officers from the detachment received information about the body of an adult man found in the area of Big Creek, outside of Fort Liard,” read an RCMP statement issued on Thursday.

“RCMP are assisting the NWT Coroner Services with a Coroners Act investigation.”
Online, a family friend remembered Floyd as “one of the greatest men I know.”
Police asked anyone with information that could help the investigation to contact Fort Liard RCMP at 867-770-1111.
