Alecus Quitte, a 21-year-old from Gametì, has been charged with murder following a death in Behchokǫ̀ on April 8.

The victim was identified locally as Archie Wedzin, a 59-year-old father of eight.

Quitte was arrested in Gametì on Tuesday and brought to Yellowknife, said police, where he remains in custody until his next court appearance.

RCMP on Wednesday said Gametì and Behchokǫ̀ detachments, alongside the police major crimes unit and forensic identification services, are continuing to work on the homicide investigation.

Police are not looking for any additional suspects at this time.

“We are thankful to the community of Behchokǫ̀ in supporting the investigation to the point of this arrest and some resolution for the family,” stated RCMP Inspector Amber Clark.
