RCMP in Yellowknife warned residents to be aware of a “possible suspicious person and white car” in the city.
On Sunday, police said they had received a report of someone in a vehicle “who allegedly requested [that] a female youth get into the vehicle.”
The incident was reported in the Finlayson Drive and Banke Crescent area of Yellowknife.
On Saturday at around 6:20pm, police were told as 12-year-old girl riding her bike in the area “was spoken to by an adult male … driving what is believed to be a small, white car.”
While there was no physical contact, the girl reported the man had “demanded she get into the vehicle.” The girl was able to ride to safety.
Police said the driver was described as white with tanned skin, black hair, and approximately 6 ft in height. No further description of the vehicle was available.
RCMP asked anyone who was in the area at the time, who could provide any further description of the vehicle or person involved, to get in touch.
“At this time of the investigation, there are no indicators that this is related to any previously reported interaction of youth and vehicles,” said police.
“Yellowknife RCMP will be conducting additional patrols in the area to ensure public safety.
“The RCMP reminds parents and caregivers to be thorough in educating children in their care with regards to the dangers of speaking to strangers and to immediately report suspicious activity.”
