Seventeen solar panels in Inuvik were damaged in a weekend attack, RCMP in the community said on Monday.

Panels at the Children First Centre, on Kingmingya Road, were attacked some time between 5pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday, RCMP said in a statement.

“Inuvik RCMP is currently investigating and is asking anyone who would have witnessed suspicious activity in the area of the Children First Centre between Saturday and Sunday afternoon to contact Inuvik RCMP at 777-1111,” the statement read.

The damage comes within days of the annual Arctic Development Expo concluding in Inuvik.

The industry conference included several sessions related to solar energy, and delegates were given a tour of the town’s solar facilities earlier in the week.
