Legislature’s summer programs introduce children to mace
The NWT Legislative Assembly’s 2019 summer programs include the opportunity for children to build their own mace.
The legislature published its list of summer programs on Friday, including activity throughout July.
On Thursday, July 18, children aged six to 10 can take part in creating their own mace – the ceremonial staff used as a symbol of authority and respect for governance.
Thursday’s session begins at 6:30pm.
Other activities include a chance for children aged two to four to learn about the symbols on the NWT’s flag, from 9am on Tuesday, July 9 – including the chance to make their own flag to take home, and tour the legislature itself.
On Tuesday, July 23, the legislature hosts a scavenger hunt for children aged two to four, from 9am.
Each program lasts 90 minutes, with the whole family invited. Participants must be accompanied by an adult.
