Inuvik police report seizing crack cocaine, cash in raid
RCMP in Inuvik say they have taken crack cocaine and thousands of dollars in cash from a local home after a raid.
In a news release on Friday, police said they had taken action after receiving “reports of drug activity in a residence” in the community. The location of the residence was not given.
After watching the home, police carried out a raid on Wednesday.
“Approximately one ounce of crack cocaine and $4,360 were seized, and a man was arrested in connection with the offence,” read the news release.
OSama Nawaz, a 19-year-old from Etobicoke, Ontario, faces charges related to the investigation.
Nawaz is charged with possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking the drug, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and a third charge related to the proceeds of crime.
Nawaz is due in a Yellowknife courtroom on Monday.
Olena Newmen, the acting commander of the Inuvik detachment, said police were “putting every effort to protect the most vulnerable members of our society” in carrying out such seizures.
