Are you in bloom? Yellowknife launches gardening contest
Yellowknifers who’ve dodged the rain and cold to produce a stunning garden will have 12 chances to win as the city hosts a summer contest.
On Monday, the City of Yellowknife said a competition sponsored by Communities in Bloom and Miracle-Gro would recognize winners across a range of categories.
Nominations will be accepted until July 26.
To enter a nomination, you need to send in at least one photo of the garden in question.
Judges will then visit each nominee before selecting winners to receive a prize pack supplied by Miracle-Gro.
Lastly, an open day on Sunday, August 4 will allow residents to tour the gardens entered into the contest using a map published online.
Here are the categories you can enter:
- Bee-friendly
- Community garden
- Container garden
- Flower garden
- Front yard, or “curb appeal”
- Funky garden
- Greenhouse
- Rock garden
- Tiny garden
- Vegetable garden
- Water feature
- Youth garden
- Muskox
OK, we made that last category up.
(Although if you have a hidden horticultural moskux that beats the City’s entry, then we’d like to hear about that.)
