The Town of Fort Smith is warning residents to expect disruption as construction work on new water and sewer mains begins.

In a notice to residents on Monday, the Town said construction would “begin in the very near future” and continue until the end of August.

Officials say ageing infrastructure needs to be replaced.

While those residents “directly impacted” by the work will be contacted separately, the Town said all residents should expect occasional disruption of water and sewer services as the installation of the new pipes takes place.

In particular, work will focus on the following areas:

  • McDougal Road between Breynat Street and Portage Avenue
  • Breynat Street between Rupert Avenue and Mercredi Avenue
  • Portage Avenue between McDougal Road and Mercredi Avenue
  • Mercredi Avenue

“Residents will see surface disruption and road closures in these areas during the construction period,” the Town said in a statement.

“The Town of Fort Smith will work to limit the amount of time each section will be affected and keep residents updated.”
