Police and fire crews are trying to figure out how a vehicle ended up submerged off the end of a dock in Yellowknife’s Old Town on Sunday evening.

Emergency responders arrived just before 8:30pm to find the vehicle’s roof poking out of Back Bay next to the viewing dock near Bullocks Bistro restaurant.

RCMP officers at the scene said three occupants were inside the vehicle, which was submerged but for its top half-metre or so.

Police said all of the occupants made it safely out of the vehicle.

A man, woman, and child were seen being taken from the area of the dock. There was no immediate suggestion of any criminal activity.

How, exactly, the vehicle had arrived in the bay is unclear.

“We are trying to discover that,” an officer at the scene said.
