Self-government negotiator Diane Thom has announced she will run for MLA in the Inuvik Boot Lake district.
Thom told Cabin Radio via email she chose to put her name forward to represent her community for the “betterment of the future.” A resident of the district, Thom stated she has lived in Inuvik since high school.
Thom is the first person to announce her intention to run in the district, after it was confirmed earlier on Thursday that incumbent Alfred Moses will not be seeking re-election.
Thom said she has two areas of focus if elected this fall: “strengthen partnerships” and “[look] out for the future of my community.”
With a management master’s degree, Thom stated she has worked in community development for a number of years as well as working together with territorial and federal officials. Thom is currently a self-government negotiator with the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation.
