‘Emergency water interruption’ in Fort Smith
Fort Smith is experiencing an emergency water interruption, town officials reported on Thursday.
Both Joseph B Tyrrell Elementary School and Paul W Kaeser High School will be closed for the afternoon.
“We are investigating the reason and we are working to get the water up and running as soon as possible,” the Town of Fort Smith posted to Facebook.
At 11:45am, the Town posted an updated statement advising the water was expected to be back up and running soon, but did not indicate the cause or extent of the interruption.
The Town noted when the water is turned off and then on, it can stir up sediment in the water lines.
“This is normal and poses no risk to health or safety,” the statement continued, noting residents may see a slight discolouration in the water.
“We recommend that you run your water for approximately 20 minutes upon resumption of service. “
The Town said the recreation centre would remain close until water service was restored.
