Fort Smith man charged with possession of child pornography

A 22-year-old from Fort Smith has been charged with luring and possession of child pornography after an investigation by a specialized RCMP unit.

The charges come after police executed a search warrant “for electronic devices” at a Fort Smith residence on Tuesday.

RCMP said a man identified as Marcus Bourke was arrested at the scene “without incident.”

The NWT RCMP’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit led the investigation, with help from the NWT’s major crimes unit and Fort Smith RCMP. A digital forensics unit from Saskatchewan was also pulled in to assist.

Bourke is charged with luring and possession of child pornography. Those charges have not been tested in court and Bourke remains innocent until proven guilty.

He has since been released on strict conditions, police said, until his next scheduled court appearance on January 20.
