The NWT government says the price of fuel is changing in 10 communities served by the Petroleum Products Program.
In a Monday news release, the Department of Infrastructure announced it was updating fuel prices – effective immediately – to reflect the cost of fuel delivered during summer and fall 2024 resupply.
According to the department, the price of gasoline is set to increase in Fort Good Hope, Łútsël K’é, Sachs Harbour, Sambaa K’e, Tsiigehtchic, Ulukhaktok and Wrigley “primarily due to increased wholesale fuel costs.”
The price of heating and motive diesel is expected to decrease in Jean Marie River, Paulatuk, Sachs Harbour, Tsiighetchic, Ulukhaktok and Whatì.
Through the Petroleum Products Program, the Department of Infrastructure manages the purchase, transportation and storage of bulk petroleum products for 16 communities that are not served by the private sector.
The NWT government said it sets retail fuel prices at amounts that recover the wholesale purchase cost and transportation costs.
Prices are adjusted at least twice a year following the summer barge resupply and winter road resupply.
Prices are next expected to be updated to align with changes in the carbon tax regime on April 1.
