More than 80 golfers teed off to raise money for the Northern Mosaic Network during Yellowknife’s third annual Pride Golf Tournament on Friday afternoon.

Carts waving assorted pride flags and decorated in balloons and streamers carried golfers dressed in tie-dye, neon, and even wigs as they competed in the best-ball tournament.

“Everyone is just being themselves and having a good time,” said organizer Sarah Erasmus, noting the tournament had 21 teams sign up.

“Each year we try to do something different. So this year we’ve got a rainbow hole at the clubhouse,” she said, pointing to an inflatable rainbow arch above dj sunaïra, who was blasting music all afternoon.

Chelsea Thacker, the executive director of the Northern Mosaic Network, said the money raised in the tournament will support the organization’s other Pride events throughout the summer.

Pride events used to be held over a condensed period of time in August in Yellowknife, but in recent years the organization has spread them out over the summer to give people more time to attend – and give Northern Mosaic more time to plan everything.

Thacker highlighted the Baby Rave on July 6 from 9:30am until noon at the Yellowknife Multiplex as an upcoming event to check out.

“We’ve had some people ask: is it for babies, or is it for people new to raving? And technically both, but no, it is aimed towards children,” they said.

“It’s an open, free, drop-in space for families to come and jam with their kids and have a little rave moment.”

Also still to come are the Pride Paddle, Pride in the Park, the Pride Party, and Drag Bingo and Brunch among other events. For all of the details, visit Northern Mosaic’s social media and Yellowknife Pride’s website.

For now, meet some of the teams from the golf tournament.
