Mountain bikers win parade title and YK’s first ‘Ho Ho Ho award’
The Yellowknife Mountain Bike Club was named best non-profit entry for 2019’s Santa Claus parade, winning the first annual Roland Gosselin “Ho Ho Ho award” – a $500 prize.
The award honours longtime Yellowknife resident Gosselin, who appeared as Santa Claus in a range of the city’s parades and other events for a number of decades.
The Tłı̨chǫ Investment Corporation was named best commercial float in the parade. The YK1 school district won the best school award.
The City of Yellowknife said it had 27 registrants for this year’s parade, which had a “winter wonderland” theme.
“Warm temperatures and an almost record number of floats made for an enjoyable evening for everyone in attendance,” said the City in a short news release announcing the winners on Tuesday.

“The City of Yellowknife wishes to thank all participants, residents, and First Transit for making this happen.”
Adding that it’s “never too early” to begin planning for next year, the City said 2020’s parade theme would be “your favourite Christmas movie.”
