RCMP arrest 30-year-old man over sex with minor in Aklavik
Police say a man has been arrested “following a report of a sexual relationship with a minor” in the Northwest Territories community of Aklavik.
RCMP said they had evidence the man, 30, had been involved in “sexual activity” that began when the minor was 14 years old and continued for more than a year.
Police said they would not identify the man arrested “to protect the identity of the victim.” The minor’s identity is protected by law.
The man has been charged with one count of sexual interference and one count of sexual assault, RCMP said.
“The investigation into this incident is ongoing,” said RCMP, adding a police internet child exploitation unit was now involved. “The RCMP does not believe there is public safety risk at this time,” a statement added.
