A block of 49 Avenue between 50 and 51 Street in Yellowknife will be closed from Saturday onwards as crews conduct ongoing repairs at the RCMP’s Yellowknife detachment building.

This portion of the road will remain closed until the work is completed, city clerk Debbie Gillard confirmed. For now, spokesperson with the RCMP Julie Plourde said it is too early to say how long repairs to the main water pipe system will take.

“A temporary set-up to the water and sewer system in the Henry Larsen Building has been completed and all administrative services are offered as per usual, with no change to service levels during the building repairs,” Plourde stated in an email to Cabin Radio.

Police had a temporary reduction in administrative services, including fingerprinting and criminal records checks, in early December as temporary repairs were completed.

Plourde confirmed policing operations and the operational communications centre continue to be operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with no changes to levels of service.

Signage for detours as well as traffic controls will be in place starting Saturday, Gillard confirmed.
