The territorial government on Monday urged local governments and non-profits to apply for this year’s Healthy Choices Fund.

The fund offers $400,000 annually to programs and services that “support individuals, families, and communities in making positive lifestyle choices.”

In recent years, recipients have included a traditional foods program at Stanton Territorial Hospital, the Camp Connections program for NWT youth involved with social services, and an Aurora College healthy campus initiative.

Individuals can’t apply. Applicants need to Indigenous governments, community governments, or non-government organizations “that can demonstrate partnership or support from an Aboriginal or community governing authority,” the territorial government said.

The NWT’s various health authorities can also apply for portions of the funding.

Approved applications receive between $10,000 and $75,000 per financial year. The NWT government says the fund is designed to support projects that increase awareness of healthy choices, focus on youth, and encourage community participation.

Applications must be submitted by 5pm MT on February 14, 2020. There’s more information about applying on the NWT government’s website, plus you can review projects that received funding in previous years.
