YK resident appeals for help after thefts from vehicles

Video provided by Andrew Tremblay shows an individual approaching a vehicle on Lamoureux Road.

A Yellowknife resident asked others to be on the lookout after a series of reported thefts from vehicles parked on the city’s Lamoureux Road.

Andrew Tremblay said his vehicle was broken into overnight between Saturday and Sunday, adding other residents on the street had reported similar thefts to him.

Tremblay said a video recording from a camera on the street showed a person he believed to be the apparent thief.

“I woke up on Sunday morning and got a notification from a neighbour that her vehicle was ransacked. So I went outside and found my truck doors were open,” said Tremblay.

“I later contacted other neighbours to find out they were robbed as well.”

Tremblay says tools and fishing equipment are missing from his truck. “I can see him carrying my tool chest,” he said of the individual in the video.

“I hope to get my tools back. Ultimately, there is a lot of value in those.”

RCMP confirmed a report had been filed but a spokesperson told Cabin Radio: “Unfortunately, we don’t have enough evidence to pursue an investigation.”

Police said any resident in the area who had suffered a similar theft should report the incident to the Yellowknife detachment.

In a statement, police added residents should “always lock their vehicles and never leave valuables inside.”
