RCMP say a man has been arrested and charged after making “threats involving a firearm” at a school in Tsiigehtchic on Tuesday.

Police said Fort McPherson RCMP were summoned to the neighbouring community shortly after lunch “regarding a potential threat being made at a school.”

According to police, a 60-year-old man was said to have “uttered threats multiple times to obtain a firearm and shoot ‘everyone.'”

A school lockdown was triggered as a result.

“RCMP arrived in the community and searched for the individual. He was located shortly after at a residence and safely arrested without incident,” said a police statement issued on Thursday.

“No students or staff were injured during this incident.”

RCMP said Richard Andre, a Tsiigehtchic resident, faces charges of uttering threats and failing to comply with a release order. He has been remanded to Yellowknife for a bail hearing.
