School closures in NWT as extreme cold bites
Several schools in the Northwest Territories did not open on Monday as extreme cold conditions persisted across many regions.
Though temperatures are expected to increase drastically later this week, Fort Simpson’s schools declared they would close for at least Monday morning as conditions were too cold.
An update was expected for residents at 11am.
In Fort Resolution, Deninu School told students and staff: “The water at the school is out and we will be shutting the school for the day.”
Fort Simpson hit -40C without wind chill on Monday morning. In Fort Resolution, the temperature was -34C.
