Police seek witnesses to downtown YK Friday morning stabbing
Police believe a 52-year-old man was stabbed in downtown Yellowknife early on Friday morning, and are asking for witnesses to come forward.
The incident saw RCMP close off a block of Franklin Avenue, from 52 St to 53 St, for several hours as they investigated the scene, near the RBC bank and Northwestel Tower.
In a news release later on Friday morning, police termed the incident “an aggravated assault” and asked for anyone who saw what happened to come forward.
RCMP officers were conducting a patrol when they reached the scene of the assault at 4:44am on Friday, police said. Paramedics were already tending to the victim.
“The victim, a 52-year-old man, appeared to be suffering from stabbing wounds,” police said. “He has been transported to hospital and is in stable condition.”
The man’s identity has not been made public.
Police dog and forensic teams swept the area before the road was reopened to traffic at 8am.
“The investigation is ongoing and no arrest has been made,” police said.
