The Deninu Kųę́ First Nation on Monday asked visitors and non-essential workers to refrain from travel to the community, resuming a roadblock on the highway entering Fort Resolution.
In a Facebook post, the First Nation tied the action to the current cluster of Covid-19 cases in Fort Liard alongside concern about the virus in Yellowknife and Hay River.
“Due to the recent reports of Covid-19 cases in the surrounding communities and the high number of calls received by concerned Elders and community members, we will be monitoring all incoming travellers until further notice,” the post stated.
The First Nation previously set up a checkpoint on the highway in April last year.
Leaders in Jean Marie River and Sambaa K’e had already asked visitors to stay out of their communities.
