Fort Smith held its own, smaller opening ceremony for the 2018 Arctic Winter Games as athletes travelled to Hay River for the main event.

Volunteers and officials gathered at the town’s Aurora College campus to watch a live stream of the Hay River ceremony, toast bannock, and hold a separate ceremony thanking residents for their hard work.
