Police in Yellowknife say a man from Whitehorse was attacked in the city’s downtown late on Friday evening.
In a news release issued on Monday afternoon, RCMP say the 23-year-old was “physically assaulted” outside a downtown residence and taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital with serious injuries. He was later transported to Edmonton by air ambulance for further treatment.
Police arrested a 22-year-old named Karl James Gardlund, from Yellowknife, in connection with the attack. He faces a charge of aggravated assault and appeared before a justice of the peace over the weekend.
Gardlund is next due in court on April 24, 2018. RCMP did not provide an update on the injured man’s condition, nor did they identify him.
