Three sports sharing the Fort Smith rink have just minutes to switch out equipment, glass, mats, and other apparatus, and transform the arena from hockey, to figure skating, to speed skating, and back again.
It all has to happen every day, it takes dozens of people, and somebody has to organize it.
Fort Smith’s Jane Peterson is the sport chair for speed skating. She has spent more than a year planning how the sport will run during the Games, and she’s practically the first in and last out each day. All of this, she does as a volunteer. This is her story.
