This year’s Long John Jamboree boasts a brand new attraction: the first annual Cabin Winter Games!

The Olympics were a lot of fun. The Arctic Winter Games, even better. But we think there is nothing quite like the Cabin Winter Games.

Turn up at the Jamboree on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday to try your hand at these challenges:

Friday

CABIN WINTER GAMES: EXTREME TEA BOILING
Registration opens 12pm, event runs 1-5pm

So you think you can boil tea? Here’s a Cabin Radio twist on this classic northern contest.

In extreme tea boiling, teams must…

  • hand-auger ice to get water for boiling
  • cut their own wood from our supplied pile
  • start a fire with firesteel
  • boil water, make tea, serve to judge

There are time penalties if you cannot start your fire with firesteel and require a match (five-minute penalty per match) or lighter (30-minute penalty for lighter use).

Teams are limited to a maximum of four members.

The team with the fastest time wins the inaugural Cabin Trophy and a $100 Woodyard gift certificate.

Saturday

CABIN WINTER GAMES: KID CURLING
Saturday, 1-4pm

No, your kids don’t get to go curling. You get to curl them.

The Cabin Winter Games kid curling championship takes places as follows:

  • Child sits in sliding saucer
  • Parent pushes child toward the house (designed in the shape of our logo)

You score 20 points for the button, 10 points for anywhere else on the Cabin icon itself, 5 points for anywhere on the square line surrounding the cabin. You lose 5 points if you miss the hogline or go straight through the house.

Qualifying: 1-3pm. Teams compete for the highest score from three throws.

Finals: 3-4pm. The best scores play off in a knockout format. Cabin Radio medals are awarded to the top three teams.

The winner takes home $100, although Wheeler would prefer you stayed and spent it all in the Brrr Garden with him.

Sunday

CABIN WINTER GAMES: SLED CROSS
