Sunday mornings at the Cabin: Jazz and soul with Jeremy
Jeremy Walsh hosts two hours of jazz, soul, and big-band from 10am till 12pm on Cabin Radio, every second Sunday.
Here are his notes and a track listing for Jeremy’s debut show on April 1:
Hi guys, it’s Jeremy here on Cabin Radio here in Yellowknife. I’m here to play some jazz tunes so throw a log on the fire and sit back and relax.
This is my first show so let me explain a little about what the show is about.
I just want to play some music, mostly jazz or blues. You’re not going to hear me rant about Trump or Trudeau’s socks or whatever. I’ve got some ideas for shows to come but please write in to the station and let me know if there’s anything you want to hear more of.
I’m planning to play some more big band on future shows and some blues eventually and maybe a few soul tracks too. Maybe even some African music at some point. You get the idea. I like a lot of music and I go through phases so it’s hard to say what we’ll hear.
Today, it’s all jazz though. I’ve got some classic 50s and 60s tunes, a newer tune and a couple New Orleans tracks if we have time so let’s get started.
Dave Brubeck – Take Five – Time Out
Miles Davis – Freddie Freeloader – Kind of Blue (Legacy Edition)
Sonny Rollins – St. Thomas – Now’s the Time!
Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington – It don’t mean a thing (if it don’t got that swing)
Thelonious Monk – Monk’s Dream (Take 8) – Monk’s Dream
Lee Morgan – The Sidewinder – The Sidewinder
Miles Davis – Milestones – Milestones
Ahmad Jamal Trio – The Awakening – The Awakening
Dexter Gordon – Scrapple from the Apple – Our Man in Paris
Brad Mehldau – Blackbird – The Art of the Trio, volume 1
Thelonious Monk – I Mean You – Paris 1969 (Live from Salle Pleyel, Paris, France/1969)
Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers – Moanin’ – Moanin’
Preservation Hall Jazz Band – Put on your old Grey Bonnet – Preservation Hall Jazz Band Live
Dejan’s Original Olympia Brass Band – Glory Land – New Orleans Street Parade
Preservation Hall Jazz Band – When the Saints go Marching In – The Essential Preservation Hall Jazz Band
