Vehicle fire overnight at Yellowknife’s Beck Court

Residents of Yellowknife’s Beck Court were woken by a vehicle fire in the early hours of Monday morning.

Video posted online shows the fire in a residential parking lot at 100 Beck Court with firefighters in attendance.

Resident Irene Lee posted video of the fire at 3:15am on Monday, commenting that this was the second fire of the day in the area before adding: “I mean technically first, since it’s 3AM.”

In a statement issued early on Monday afternoon, the City of Yellowknife said two vehicles were involved and the scene has been handed to RCMP for investigation.

“On arrival to the scene, the crew noted a newer model red SUV was fully involved and a newer model Chevrolet half-ton truck parked on the side of the red SUV had smoke coming out of the covered box,” read the statement.

“Ignited gas was leaking from the red SUV and flowing downhill under the half-ton truck and three other vehicles. No other exposures were noted.”

There are no reports of injuries. Firefighters were on the scene for around an hour and a half.

RCMP confirmed an investigation is under way, but said no details could be shared.
