RCMP have yet to lay charges after ‘massive’ raids in Yellowknife’s Range Lake neighbourhood on Friday.
Residents described armed police conducting two searches of homes in the region of Finlayson Drive.
Jennifer Grant, posting to a public Facebook group, described “a massive team of officers” with guns and dogs in her neighbourhood.
“It was incredible to see. Scary, but incredible,” said Grant.
“My daughter was terrified when she came in the house saying that there was a bunch of ‘soldiers pointing guns’ but she quickly realized that those men are the ones risking their lives to keep us all safe.”
Grant said she witnessed three men being arrested by officers. Contacted for comment, RCMP were not able to confirm that number and said no charges have yet been laid.
Their investigation continues. The reason for the raids has not been provided.
“Police executed two search warrants, issued pursuant to Section 487 of the Criminal Code, in the Range Lake area Friday evening,” staff sergeant Dean Riou, from the RCMP’s federal investigations unit, confirmed to Cabin Radio by email.
“The matter is still under investigation and no charges have been laid. No further details will be provided until such time as charges are laid.”
