Taking no chances, Yellowknife moves summer BBQ indoors
Yellowknife, remember that ice rink you spent the last eight months inside? Go on. Back you go.
As record-breaking rain swamped the NWT capital on Tuesday, City Hall abandoned plans to hold its annual community barbecue outdoors – a full 48 hours before the event was due to start.
Thursday’s barbecue will now take place from 5pm till 7pm inside the Shorty Brown Arena at the city’s Multiplex.
The community barbecue is open to the public, free to attend, and usually involves Yellowknife’s mayor and councillors taking turns behind the grill on residents’ behalf.
This year’s event also includes a live comedy show from 6:30pm featuring Daryl Makk and Eric Payne, which organizers say will “bring awareness, educate and support those suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and all forms of mental illness.”
