UPDATED: Where can you watch the World Cup Final in Yellowknife?

The World Cup trophy

Soccer’s World Cup Final is one of the biggest events in sports – but it falls at a phenomenally awkward time for people in the Northwest Territories.

The game is set to kick off at 9am on Sunday, July 15, which is a time when none of Yellowknife’s sports-showing establishments would ordinarily be open.

Cabin Radio’s Alice Twa called around and got the following list of responses from the city’s bars with TVs:

Twist with Cabin Radio: YES!

It seemed like there weren’t many options in Yellowknife so we created one! We’re hosting our very own World Cup Final party at Twist from 8:30am on Sunday.

It’s a free event. Click here for more details!

Boston Pizza: TO BE CONFIRMED
Boston Pizza is working out whether it can open up for Sunday’s game – watch this space.

Racquet Club: YES!
The Racquet Club will open at 8:30am to show the game, with free coffee and fruits/veggies. Alcohol can’t be served till 10am.

Woodyard: No
Normal business hours, which means closed on Sundays.

Copperhouse: No
Only open for dinner on Sunday.

Black Knight: No
Never open Sundays.

Monkey Tree: No
Won’t be open.

Kilt & Castle: ?
Didn’t pick up, but usually closed Sundays.

We couldn’t find anyone in Hay River, Fort Smith, or Inuvik who sounded like they would be opening to show the game on Sunday morning.

If your establishment – in Yellowknife or elsewhere in the NWT – is missing from this list and will be showing the game on Sunday, let us know by email and we’ll add you!
