The body of a man missing in Tuktoyaktuk since the early hours of Wednesday has been found in the community’s harbour.

John Holliday, a tourist on a camping trip with his family, was the subject of a search and rescue operation since Wednesday evening.

Police said his body was discovered in the harbour around Thursday lunchtime.

Though it’s not clear how John died, his death is not currently considered suspicious by RCMP. An autopsy will now be conducted.

John and his family are believed to have travelled up to Tuktoyaktuk from BC.

The community of Tuktoyaktuk has been experiencing a boom in tourism since the opening, last November, of an all-weather road connecting the Arctic coast to Inuvik, the Dempster Highway, and the south.
