More than a dozen teams of Yellowknife residents lined up to pull a Summit Air Avro RJ85 for charity on Saturday.

Special Olympics NWT, the beneficiary, said more than $15,000 had been raised as a result. The money goes toward expenses like facility costs for its athletes.

Teams each had to pull the aircraft for a distance of 25 feet, against the clock. The fastest time, a fraction under 10 seconds, was set by the local RCMP detachment’s men’s team.

An Avro RJ85 weighs around 55,000 lbs if entirely empty, and can safely take off weighing up to 97,000 lbs including cargo.
