SUMMARY:NASA ABoVE Open House
DESCRIPTION:The GNWT and NASA would like to announce an exciting open house opportunity!  GNWT has been busy collaborating with NASA as part of the ongoing Arctic-Boreal Vulnerability Experiment, commonly referred to as the NASA ABoVE program.\nWe would like to invite everyone to attend the NASA ABoVE program open house this Thursday, August 15th from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm.  The event will be held at 155 Bristol Avenue (Canadian North hangar near the airport).  Overflow parking is available at the main airport parking lot.  Some of the open house activities are:\n–          Learn all about the types of remote sensing being conducted and how this information is being used to monitor environmental change in the NWT\n–          Learn about the NASA802 aircraft, which is used by NASA to conduct their remote-sensing flight operations\n–          Tak a tour of the aircraft (inside and out)\n–          Talk to NASA employees working on ABoVE\n \nWhat is NASA ABoVE?\nThe Arctic-Boreal Vulnerability Experiment (ABoVE) is a NASA field campaign taking place in Alaska and Western Canada.  ABoVE is a large-scale study of environmental change and its implications for social-ecological systems.  ABoVE’s science objectives are broadly focused on:\n\ngaining a better understanding of the vulnerability and resilience of Arctic and boreal ecosystems to environmental change in western North America;\nproviding the scientific basis for informed decision-making to guide societal responses at local to international levels.\n\nResearch for ABoVE will link field-based studies with geospatial data products derived from airborne and satellite sensors, providing a foundation for improving the analysis and modeling capabilities needed to understand and predict ecosystem responses and societal implications.\nMore information on the Above program can be found here: https://above.nasa.gov/about.html ( https://above.nasa.gov/about.html ).\n
