The venue has asked that we not use bottled water for the event so please bring a reusable water bottle along!\nAbout the Project:\nThe Giant Mine Oversight Board (GMOB), in collaboration with RFS Energy and Dr. Nicolas Brunet’s research group at the University of Guelph, have embarked on a three-year project supported by funding from Natural Resources Canada’s Climate Change Adaptation Program. The project seeks to build climate change adaptation knowledge and capacity in mine closure and perpetual care planning among mining professionals, decision-makers, rights-holders, and others. In particular, the Climate Ready Mine project team wants to understand if and how the various components of mine closure plans can be assessed for their adaptive capacity and resilience to the long-term impacts of climate change. In developing a closure plan assessment tool, the team’s hope is to facilitate and support the adoption of climate resilient strategies in the mining industry. With Giant Mine and current remediation efforts (GMRP) as a real-world example, the team will be working closely with the community and organisations in Yellowknife to co-develop these tools in ways they hope can be meaningful.\nNo registration is required, but we’d love to know if you’re planning to attend.\nFor questions about the event or accessibility requests, please contact us at email@email.ca\nWe look forward to seeing you there!\n
