United Way NWT announces recipients of $205K in grants

The United Way NWT has announced the recipients of a total $205,000 in grants from its annual Community Investment Fund.

In a Monday news release, United Way NWT said the Northern Birthwork Collective had been awarded this year’s multi-year grant, which provides $15,000 per year over three years. It said payments are also being made this year to previous recipients of the multi-year grant including the Hay River Committee for Persons with Disabilities, Hamlet of Ulukhaktok, and Hay River Family Support Centre.

United Way NWT said the following 17 organizations would each receive a $7,500 grant from this year’s fund:

  • Food Rescue Yellowknife
  • Inuvik Youth Centre
  • Ecology North
  • Inclusion NWT
  • Food First Foundation
  • Foster Family Association
  • Home Base YK
  • YK Education District 1 Ew ts’ehwhee
  • Tree of Peace Friendship Centre
  • Yellowknife Women’s Society
  • Hay River Youth Centre
  • Yellowknife Playschool
  • Yellowknife Seniors Society
  • Society Saint Vincent de Paul
  • Aspire Training Academcy
  • Children First Society
  • Soaring Eagle Friendship Centre

“We have seen how valuable our NWT not-for-profits are during the emergencies of the last few years. They do urgent and necessary work every day, for which we are all deeply thankful,” Paul Gillard, chair of the board for United Way NWT was quoted as saying. “The United Way NWT is very happy to continue our long-standing support of these deserving organizations.”
