A woman in Hay River is planning a road trip across Canada after winning $1 million on a lottery ticket.

“It’s unbelievable,” Nancy Yakeleya said of her win. “Now and then it will just hit me, like, ‘Oh my gosh, I won a million dollars.”

According to a Tuesday press release, Yakeleya purchased the winning Jackpot Multiplier scratch ticket at The Rooster in Hay River.

“I scratched it at home and had to take a second look at it,” she recalled. “I thought maybe I’d won a free play and my brother said, ‘I think you won a million dollars.'”

Yakeleya, who is newly retired, said she is planning a road trip with her sister as she has children and grandchildren across Canada.
