NWT string musicians will join a visiting musical duo for a concert at Yellowknife’s Northern Arts and Cultural Centre this weekend.

The concert will feature Crow-Chiu Duo – Jonathan Crow on violin and Phil Chiu on piano. Crow is the concertmaster of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra while Chiu’s album Fables won the 2023 Juno award for solo classical album.

“The Crow-Chiu Duo is shifting expectations and the boundaries of classical chamber music,” a press release states.

“The powerhouse pair …. bring a down-to-earth connection to their incredible artistry and love of connecting to music makers of today.”

Joining the duo on stage in Yellowknife will be fiddler Wesley Hardisty, violinist Barbara Fortin-Clinton and cellist Flora Camuzet.

The concert, set for Saturday at 7:30pm, is a co-presentation between NACC and Yellowknife composer Carmen Braden’s company, Black Ice Sound.

The organizations described the event as “one of the most gorgeous and genre-crossing concerts to come to Yellowknife.”

Tickets are available on the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre’s website.

The musicians are also set to perform at a Yellowknife school and the North Slave Correctional Complex.
