The Yellowknife public school board says “a large number of cheques” were stolen from École Įtłʼo following a break-in over the weekend.
In an email on Monday, Jameel Aziz, superintendent of Yellowknife Education District No 1, said the stolen cheques are numbered from 110 to 502 and have the YK1 logo on them along with the school’s name.
“In order to protect the public and the citizens of Yellowknife and area we are taking the unusual step of sharing this information publicly to make sure that these cheques are not used or attempted to be cashed,” he wrote.
Aziz said the school district was working with the RCMP and banks to “minimize any disruption or damage” to anyone who receives one of the stolen cheques.
He asked anyone with information about the break-in and theft to contact the Yellowknife RCMP.
